About the Educators:

Gwyn E Campbell

Gwyn E. Campbell’s love of textiles and fibers—the feel, the colours, the endless amazing possibilities—started when she was a child.  Taught to sew by her mother, she created pieces for her dolls and herself.  A family friend taught her to knit and for many years as an adult she was an avid knitter and designer of knitwear; until she caught the true quilting bug more than ten years ago.  While she loves all forms of quilts she is addicted to paper piecing, and is a Certified Instructor for Judy Niemeyer. By training she has been a university professor for many years, but is transitioning into a “retirement” of happily piecing, teaching and quilting. She currently lives and works in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley in Virginia where one cat, a foster service dog in training, cycling, golf and gardening round out a full life.

Sherida Giddings

Sherida started quilting and joined her first guild over 20 years ago.  Along with finding lifetime friends, it provides a constant source of quilting inspiration. She now belongs to several guilds and loves attending meetings to see all the amazing projects created by others.  Sherida decided to become more involved by teaching locally, as well taking classes from other instructors, including Quiltworx Certified Instructors. These courses sparked her interest to become a Quiltworx Certified Instructor and she set out to begin the creative journey and fulfill this dream.  As a Certified Instructor for Judy Niemeyer/Quiltworx, Sherida has found a way to combine her love of teaching with sharing the precision of Judy’s paper piecing techniques. It is a wonderful feeling to encourage others to develop more confidence in their own skills while creating something special, and always having fun at the same time.

The Project:

Aloha!  Welcome aboard while we sail and sew our way to a Hawaiian paradise with the added adventure of our Tropical Mixer Mystery Quilt.  Gwyn and Sherida are creating a stunning unique quilt (at least 60” by 60”) for this cruise based on Judy Niemeyer techniques and designs.  As the various units take shape and come together, the mystery will unfold before your eyes.  While we don’t want to spoil the surprise, it’s safe to say that as we cruise across the piece-ful Pacific you will enjoy floating points, gentle wavy curves, beauty, and perhaps even some stars along the way.
