NORTH TO ALASKA

Come explore the Last Frontier – Alaska!  One of our most popular cruises is to this beautiful land of scenic wonder, cool temperatures, wildlife sightings, glaciers, icebergs, cultural education and peaceful relaxation!  We hope you will join us! Kathy Lincoln

FEATURED INSTRUCTOR:  KATHY LINCOLN

Kathy was taught to sew by her grandmother, beginning at age 9.  Garment construction was her primary focus until 1984 when she learned to quilt with templates made out of cereal boxes.  In 1985, she discovered rotary cutters and rulers.  She has been lecturing and teaching nationally since 1992 in quilt shops and regularly at the Quilters Unlimited Quilt Show (Chantilly, Virginia) since 2003.  She has exhibited quilts at International Quilt Festival in Houston, American Quilt Show in Paducah, Vermont Quilt Festival, Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival and other shows.

Kathy’s quilt, “In My Shade Garden”, was published in the February/March 2009 issue of Quilters Newsletter.  She also participated in the “Vintage Revisited Challenge”, making 6 quilts that traveled the United States with this exhibit.  Kathy has a special passion for simplifying techniques.  She believes in reducing fabric waste and speeding up the process.  Learn more about Kathy at www.kathylincoln.com.

SPONSORED BY:  THE QUILT PATCH

ABOUT THE PROJECT:

The quilt has eight modified turnstile blocks set on point with sashing and cornerstone.  We will be using a quick piecing technique to create the quarter square triangles that will spin in the same direction to create the spinning star effect.  We will also learn to piece a partial seam block (the star blocks).  There will be lots of tips to make your piecing more accurate.  After all, we like things that go together.

There will be two different colorways to choose from:

*Aurora Borealis:  The brilliant colors of the Aurora Borealis set on a midnight sky.

*Glacier:  All the shades of water inside the glacier and the surrounding areas.
